Qube Gallery Presents Color Contrast
Qube Gallery celebrates its 2nd year anniversary by presenting the works of Juvenal Sanso and Camille Ver in a two- artist exhibition this January 15 to February 10, 2015.
Juvenal Sanso is a Filipino artist known for his expressive surrealistic landscapes in tropical colors. As an artist, he has won three major awards given by the three countries that have been home to him. Among these are:
The Presidential Medal of Merit, awarded by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to Juvenal Sanso on May 20, 2006. It is the most prestigious award given by the Philippine government to an artist for his invaluable contribution to visual arts in the country.
The Distinguished Cross of Isabela was awarded to Sanso by the Spanish King Juan Carlos on January 8, 2007. The award was given in recognition of his exemplary work across national boundaries. It is akin to a knighthood or to the Member of the British Empire given by the Queen of England.
The Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres was conferred on Sanso on February 26, 2008 by the Ministry of Culture and Communications of the Republic of France.
Camille Veris one of the foremost contemporary abstractionists in the Philippines. In recent years, she has been primarily concerned with architectural abstraction. Aggressively abstracting the lines and forms of cityscapes, Ver bucks the common usage of minimalism in abstraction, preferring large swaths of brushstrokes and experimentations in color in her practice.
Ver graduated from the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts in 2003, majoring in Painting. She later took a special course in Interior Design at the Philippine Institute of Interior Design. Her influences include Russian abstract art pioneer Vasilly Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Van Gogh and Manet.
