PYC to Bare National Youth Plan on International Youth Day Celebration
Provincial Youth Commission (PYC) executive director Charlton James Canoy on Saturday, August 11, said that among the activities for this year’s International Youth Day celebration is to share the National Government’s framework strategy for a unified action among the youth, youth-serving groups and institutions to promote a holistic youth participation in the society.
International Youth Day, which is celebrated worldwide every August 12, is designed by the United Nations to recognize efforts of the young ones in improving the global community. The one-day event intends to draw attention to a set of cultural and legal issues involving the youth.
In an interview over radio DyAR, Canoy said that the Philippine Youth Development Plan (PYDP) for 2017-2022 also defines the duties and accountabilities of the local government units (LGUs) to address the economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights of the youth.
“The Province of Cebu is gradually introducing the PYDP. This (PYDO) will become the basis for our Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation officers in crafting its own local youth development plan for every barangay, city and municipality in the Province,” Canoy said.
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III has placed youth participation in his 6-key development agenda. Last week, Davide recommended three towns and its youth to be given priority livelihood projects by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Among the programs of the PYC, according to Canoy, is the campaign on the responsible use of social media, that “does not only affect the youth but also adults, especially in the advent of fake news,” Canoy said.
Also queued for the Sunday’s celebration is the discussion on the ‘Real Youth Situation in the Philippines’ which will be given by an international youth group. NYC Commissioner for the Visayas Rhea Peñaflor will also be joining the whole day event.
The activity, which will include fun games and surprises, will be held at the Capitol Social Hall from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.
Gov. Davide and wife Mrs. Jobel Angan-Davide will be attending the event, as well as Provincial Board Members Miguel Antonio Magpale and Jericho Rubio.
This year’s International Youth Day bears the theme “Safe Spaces for Youth.” (CEBU PROV. GOV’T)
