Public Urged To Celebrate National Astronomy Week
The Department of Science & Technology (DOST) invites the public to celebrate the National Astronomy Week (NAW).
NAW is an annual event being observed every 3rd week of February. This year the occasion will be celebrated on 15-19 February with the theme: “Updating the Skills of Personnel from PAGASA Regional Services Division (PRSD) in Understanding Astronomical Events”.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) the agency mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 130, to spearhead the annual celebration, has prepared the following activities for the whole celebration:
1. Free Planetarium Shows
2. Free Stargazing and Telescoping Sessions at PAGASA observatory
3. Free Hand-outs & Posters in Astronomy to all Visiting Schools during the event.
4. PAGASA Field Personnel Seminar/Workshop on Astronomical Sightings & Observations, Events and Services.
The free planetarium shows and telescoping sessions will be held at the PAGASAPlanetarium, Science Garden, Agham Road, Diliman, Quezon City and at the PAGASA Observatory, U.P. Diliman Compound, respectively.
It will be scheduled on a first-come, first served basis. Planetarium shows will be conducted from 8:00 AM to 5:00 P.M. daily, while telescoping sessions will start at 7:00 o’clock nightly.
The Seminar/Workshop for PAGASA Field Personnel will be conducted at the PAGASA Central Office on 18-19 February 2016. A stargazing session will follow after the Seminar/Workshop, which will be held within the PAGASA compound.
