PRO7 Asks LGUs for Vehicles

The Police Regional Office (PRO)7 on Wednesday appealed to all local government units (LGUs) in the region to provide mobilities to the police authorities assigned in their areas.

PSSupt. Orlando D. Ualat, who served as proxy of PRO7 Regional Director PCSupt. Prudencio Tom T. Bañas during the 77th Talakayan sa Isyung Pulis (TSIP) Forum made the appeal so that the police operatives can perform well in their functions to fight against criminalities.

Ualat said his thrust is also to avoid the repetition of a case of three police officers in Cebu City who utilized an impounded car during their police operations which resulted to their temporary suspensions from the service.

“I hope that all LGUs could help the police authorities in performing their delicate tasks by providing mobilities to them for their patrol operations and responding any form of criminal alarm in their respective areas of jurisdictions”, Ualat said.

Ualat said no LGU officials could underestimate the role of the police in combating against the various crimes that are happening every now an then in every community.

But when the police operatives could make any alternatives just to perform their duties and responsibilities and later on found to have unjustifiable reasons,”we can not help but to implement the law against them like what happened to the three police officials who were involved in utilizing the impounded vehicle in Cebu City for their police operations which resulted to their indefinite suspensions.

It can be noted that the three police officers mentioned by Ualat were Punta Princesa Police Station Chief PCI Noli Cernio, Fuente Police Station Deputy Chief, Inspector Wilfredo Alicaba and Senior Inspector Elisandro Quijano, Homicide Section Chief.

The three police officers were all served as Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) chief and accused of using a green Mitsubishi Lancer that was found abandoned at the corner of Molave and Apitong streets in barangay Lahug, Cebu City in October last year so they kept it at their impounding area. Because there was no claimant despite announcements made through print, radio and television broadcasts, the said unit was utilized as TRS patrol car and used it in their surveillance operations.

When the incident was made known to Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) City Director PSSupt Noli Romana, the officers were temporarily suspended while the case is still at the investigation process.

This is the reason why Ualat has asked all LGU officials in the region to help their policemen do their duties and responsibilities as quick as possible by having a motorcycle or patrol car as their service vehicles.
