Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 has been conducting back-to-back buy bust operations around Cebu City prior to the Sinulog 2019 celebration.

Based on media reports, a buy bust operation on Jan. 13 at Basak Pardo yielded P2.1 million worth of shabu from a fish vendor.

During the recent Association of Government Information Officers-Philippine Information Agency (AGIO-PIA)- 7 Forum, P/SSupt. Royina M. Garma was congratulated by the media for seizing 3.6 kilos of shabu amounting to P25 million in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.

The 3.6 kilos of shabu could have been used by 36,000 users assuming that they use 1 gram each.

On Jan. 15, another two medium-sized packs of shabu worth P74,000 were confiscated in Barangay Tisa.

Garma said that they have anticipated the proliferation of party drugs during the festival.

PRO-7 augmented its personnel with additional 3,000, excluding the Drug Enforcement Units, to focus on their operations.

Additionally, they will have 11 elevated police outposts, one for every 2-3 blocks along the parade route to make sure that the celebration would be peaceful and orderly.

She added that the liquor ban will also be implemented within 300 meters of the parade route.

Selling of alcoholic beverages and drinking within the parameters are prohibited.

Likewise, the Office of the Civil Defense will be on red alert status on January 18-20 due to high density population activities. (Bridgette May Bayhon/PIA7)
