PRO 7 Enforces Gun Ban
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has implemented the gun ban law covering the whole province of Cebu effective January 8, 2014 in preparation for the yearly Sinulog activities in Cebu City.
The gun ban implementation was made following the approval of the PNP hierarchy on the request submitted by the Police Regional Office (PRO)7 banning everybody from bringing firearms within the whole province of Cebu to maintain peace and order during the Sinulog celebration.
PNP Director General Alan Purisima has immediately approved the request upon receiving this at his table.
Chief of Staff Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza of the PRO 7 told reporters that said gun ban will continue until January 22.
Carranza said that personnel from the PNP, military, and even the civilian populace who have permits, are the ones who may be allowed to bring with them their firearms.
However, he said that all policemen, and military personnel should wear their prescribed uniforms if they are bringing their firearms.
He also said that once they are found to have firearms but not wearing their uniforms will be definitely arrested.
He said they are also coordinating with other law agencies of the government for the said implementation of gun ban.
