President Duterte Eyes Rail Transport Solution to Cebu’s Traffic

President Rodrigo Duterte eyes trains and sky-walks as the best solution to solve the traffic problem in Cebu. He revealed this during his visit in Cebu on Sunday, January 19 to witness the Sinulog Grand Festival at the Cebu City Sports Center.

During his speech, President Duterte said that Cebu is an old city and the streets existed even before the Philippine Government was constituted.

The President said that there is no other way to solve the traffic situation in Cebu but to build monorail with the capacity of a Light Rail Transit. An unsolicited proposal for monorail was submitted to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for approval.

Meanwhile, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Dino hopes that the monorail will partially operate in 2022.

“We needed this mass transportation years ago and thankfully we now have a president that cares for his people, and loves the Cebuanos just as much,” said Dino.

President Duterte strongly supports the Integrated Intermodal Transport System (IITS). (MLC)
