Pres. Duterte to Inaugurate Rehab Center in Fort Magsaysay
President Rodrigo R. Duterte will inaugurate today, the Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DATRC) Phase I inside Fort Magsaysay.
Highlights of the activity include inspection of model rooms, ceremonial unveiling of project marker, and recognition of DATRC donors including Chinese billionaire Huang Rulun.
The President is also expected to deliver a speech.
The Mega DATRC in Fort Magsaysay has 10,000 bed capacity wherein Phase I has 2,500. Its construction was made possible through the efforts of a Task Force, headed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
That Task Force was mandated by the President’s Executive Order No.4 to tap partners in building similar facilities nationwide. Records show that at present, there are only 44 public and private DATRCs in the country than can serve about 10,000 in-patients.
With the Duterte administration’s all-out war against illegal drugs, around 800,000 users and those engaged in illegal trade volunteered to submit themselves to various law enforcement and local government units. They must undergo rehabilitation for them to be freed from drug dependence and become viable and productive members of the society.
Under the Mega DATRC project, the Department of National Defense provided land within its military camp while Department of Health will operate and manage it as required by law. (CLJD/CCN-PIA 3)
