Possible Cloudy Skies, Rains in Metro on SONA Day
Manila (PNA) — Possible cloudy skies and occasional rain may occur over Metro Manila Monday, when President Benigno Aquino III delivers his final State of the Nation Address (SONA).
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Gladys Saludes, there is 50 to 60 percent chance of rain due localized thunderstorms. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorm rains are expected to prevail in Metro Manila today.
This afternoon, Aquino is set to deliver his last SONA before a joint session of Congress at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.
Top ranking government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and other VIPs are expected to attend the activities.
Thousands of protesters are also expected to hold mass actions in front of the Ever Gotesco Mall in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
Around 10,000 government security forces were deployed for the occasion under a joint task force by the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
For Monday forecast, PAGASA said a Ridge of High Pressure Area (HPA) affecting Northern Luzon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms over the whole country.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to east over the rest of the country.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
