Police: Holy Week in Cebu is “Generally Peaceful”
Despite an ambush that transpired in Samboan Town in Cebu, this year’s observation of Holy Week was generally peaceful according to Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
The ambush incident happened on Good Friday when Police Master Sergeant Roy Calavida and his sister and three other family members were attending a mass in St. Michael Archangel Church in Barangay Poblacion, Samboan town.
Calavida and his sister were immediately brought to the hospital after unknown assailants shoot their vehicle.
Both Calavida and his sister the survived the ambush attempt while the other family members were unharmed.
CPPO Director Manuel Abrugena said that the fail ambush was just an isolated case.
Abrugena also said that they deployed policemen in churches other common places people and tourist flock in during the Holy Week especial in Bantayan Island which also celebrates its fiesta during holy week.
Abrugena added that the observance of this year’s Holy Week is generally peaceful despite some isolated incidents in Cebu Province. (ASC)
