Police, Coast Guard Say All Saints’, All Souls’ Day in Cebu, Central Visayas Peaceful
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) 7 said the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day during the weekend in Cebu and other parts of Central Visayas was generally peaceful.
Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 said was generally peaceful all over the province and other parts of the region.
“The incidents were very few,” he said.
Lawas said the minor incidents include a fire that broke out near a private cemetery in Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion which was immediately put out and a stabbing incident involving an 18-year-old man who stabbed two men inside a public cemetery in Barangay Cogon, Cordova for no apparent reason.
The weather and sea conditions also favored sea travel, the PCG 7 said.
“There was no untoward or maritime incident reported. The Coast Guard rescue personnel and vessels will continue to be on standby, ready to respond to any maritime incident,” Commodore Enrico Evangelista, PCG 7 chief, said.
The PCG inspected 63 vessels, 47 motor bancas and 45 roll-on, roll-off ferries, with a total of 9,277 outbound passengers and 8,647 inbound passengers, he said.
But in Cebu City, at least 759 persons were caught littering or smoking in Cebu City’s cemeteries during the weekend.
Those caught smoking will be fined PHP1,500, while those caught littering will be fined PHP500.
Those who can’t pay the fine will be asked to render community service.
The Cebu Provincial Government also earned around PHP536,000 from Saturday to Monday at the Cebu South Bus Terminal on N. Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
