POEA Suspends Deployment of Newy-Hired OFWs in Ebola-affected Countries

Manila (PNA) — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has imposed a temporary suspension on the deployment and processing of newly-hired overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to countries affected by the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Countries such as Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone have been tagged as sites where there has been a spread of the said extremely contagious disease which has prompted the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to raise the Crisis Alert Level to Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) last June 30.

However, the POEA has allowed the deployment of vacationing or returning OFWs with existing employment contracts to the said countries in exchange of their compliance with documentation requirements.

The POEA has further advised OFWs in the affected countries to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation. (PNA) CTB/JDM
