PNP Gets Significant Downtrend in Carnapping Incidents

Quezon City — The Philippine National Police through its Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) recorded only 11 cases of carnapping (CN) incidents for the past week (Aug 3-9) as compared to 18 cases of CN from July 27 to August 2, 2015.

According to the Chief of Crime Research and Analysis Center of DIDM, PSSupt William Macavinta, during the regular Oplan Lambat-Sibat meeting, carnapping incidents have significantly decreased compared to an average of 39 carnapping cases 60 weeks ago.

On the 11 cases of CN incidents last week, seven of this were reported to be stolen while parked.

Five of the 11 CN incidents occurred in the streets and four out of 11 occurred in residential areas.

The DIDM representative noted that carnapping incidents still occur during midnight until morning of the next day, from 12:01 AM to 8:00 AM.

Meanwhile, the PNP leadership still the public anew to be more vigilant against carnapping especially during night-time. Thus, advises the public of some safety tips like:

Always park your car at a safe, secure and well-lighted places or areas.

Install security alarm and security devices in your car.

Make sure to lock your car windows and doors at all times.
