Plaints Filed against Joavan for Firearms, Explosives
The controversial son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez is now facing charges of illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives and violation of the Commission on Election gun ban before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office.
Joavan, the adopted son of Fernandez, was arrested by authorities last Monday at his father’s House of Prayer in Barangay Candulawan, Talisay City, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Mario Manayon of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities- Talisay City after he failed to attend the hearing of the slight physical injury case filed against him.
Yesterday Joavan underwent an inquest proceeding at the Prosecutor’s office.
During the arrest, police reportedly recovered from Joavan a 9mm pistol with four live ammunition and a hand grenade to which he denied of having, saying the evidence against him was planted.
Meanwhile, Alayon Party campaign manager and Talisay City administrator Richel Bacaltos said the group’s campaigning will not be ruined by this latest brush with the law involving one of their candidates’ relative. Mayor Fernandez is running for Councilor under the Alayon. Also, Bacaltos said despite what happened the Alayon will not drop Fernandez, who is still doing good in the surveys despite the incident, from their party.
Earlier, Fernandez told the media that he is willing to quit from his party and run independent if his son’s issues are hurting their campaign. The mayor has, however, rejected allegations that Joavan was guilty of any of those criminal acts.
