Pimentel Condemns Congressman Belmonte Slay Attempt
Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III today condemned the attempted ambush-slay on Iligan City Congressman Vicente “Vharf” Belmonte as another black day for peace in Mindanao.
Pimentel, chairman of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, said the daring attack at the Laguindingan airport that killed four of Belmonte’s companions again highlighted the condition of security measures in supposedly tightly guarded areas.
He said the bloody incident would again create an ugly picture for the country before the world as the attack happened right at the vicinity of an international airport.
The Mindanao senator asked police authorities to hunt down the killers and unmask the mastermind in the “dastardly act committed against a member of Congress.”
