PHP15-M Bridge Links 2 Upland Cebu City Villages
A PHP15-million concrete bridge now links the two hinterland barangays of Bonbon and Buot in Cebu City.
Bonbon Barangay Captain Alex Ibarita said residents of the two barangays used to wade in waist-deep waters to cross the river separating the two barangays.
The bridge was completed in January last year yet, but it was turned over by the contractor to the barangay only on Tuesday due to the change in leadership in the barangay.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella joined barangay officials and residents of Bonbon and Taup during the turnover and blessing.
Ibarita thanked Rama for realizing their dream of having a bridge.
“We have long asked for this bridge and without Mayor Rama, this would not have materialized… To all my constituents, keep in mind all the projects that the mayor gave us. Who else can give us all these projects? Only Mayor Rama,” he said.
Ibarita said they will lobby with the city officials to build an emergency hospital and a college in Bonbon, which can also serve residents of other neighboring barangays. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
