PHL to Sustain Growth in Cloud Computing Technology – Cisco
(PNA) — The Philippines is seen to continue its progress in the cloud computing technology, California-based global networking leader Cisco Systems, Inc. said.
Cisco Systems Asia Pacific Chief Technology Officer Bernie Trudel, in a press briefing, said the Philippines is currently in the position of being a “steady-mover” in the Asia Pacific region in the Cloud Readiness Index.
Trudel said that in 2011, the Philippines placed as the least cloud-ready economy among 14 countries in Asia Pacific as the country then had not yet placed infrastructures and there was also lack in government regulation in terms of cloud technology.
Cloud technology allows data storage, management, process, and sharing through the Internet rather than a local server or a personal computer.
In 2014, the country improved its ranking in the Asia Pacific, jumping by four notches to rank 10 as cloud-ready economy in the region.
“There is certainly progression for the Philippines in terms of cloud computing,” Trudel said.
The Cloud Readiness Index of Asia Cloud Computing Association (ACCA) measures an economy’s openness to cloud technology through 10 parameters which include privacy, broadband quality, international connectivity, government regulatory environment and usage, power grid and green policy, data sovereignty, intellectual property protection, freedom of information, data center risk, and business sophistication.
Trudel added that being more adapting to the cloud technology will also strength the country’s various industries including business process outsourcing (BPO), retail, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
As the cloud technology improves connectivity, it will be beneficial for the local industries as the ASEAN integration is taking place at end-2015. (PNA) CTB/KMC
