PHL to Send Volunteers in Earthquake-torn Nepal
(PNA)– The Philippine government is currently preparing to send volunteers to assist the needs of earthquake victims in Nepal.
In an interview, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino said that the Philippine team may be dispatched within 36 hours.
“Currently we are mapping out strategies for the deployment of the Philippine team. Our major problem is there’s no plane flight to Nepal because of the incident. Our team needs to travel two days to reach the site,” said Tolentino Tuesday.
Tolentino was here as guest speaker of the opening of agro-tourism fair in Numancia, Aklan.
Latest reports show that the death toll in Saturday’s 7.8 earthquake in Nepal has climbed to 4,264 with more than 7,000 others injured. (PNA) FFC/RCK/AJP/JNA/VLO
