The Department of Tourism (DOT) is working to bring more Indian tourists to the Philippines. At the 12th ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers Meeting on January 20, DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted the potential of India’s growing outbound tourism market.

In 2024, nearly 80,000 Indian tourists visited the Philippines, marking a 12% increase from 2023. Frasco noted the country’s appeal with its beaches, dive spots, cultural attractions, and wedding destinations like Cebu.

To boost arrivals, the DOT has introduced electronic visas for Indian nationals and is pursuing direct flights from India to Manila, Cebu, Boracay, and Clark. Talks with Air India are underway to make this possible.

Sustainability remains a priority as both nations aim to protect cultural heritage and natural resources. Strengthening ties through joint marketing campaigns and expanded air connectivity are also part of the DOT’s plan.

Frasco expressed optimism about increasing Indian tourist numbers, while India’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, said the Philippines deserves a larger share of Indian visitors. (ASC)
