The 53rd engineer brigade of the Philippine Army conducted plasma donation drive on Thursday, July 30 at Camp Lapu-Lapu, Brgy. Lahug, Cebu City.

Headed by Col. Gerardo Catindoy, the activity’s main purpose is to donate plasma for covid-19 patients especially through these trying times.

The convalescent plasma (liquid part of the blood), may be instrumental in treating patients infected with COVID-19 according to scientific reports.

Everyone is encouraged to donate their plasma, even COVID-19 patients who are “fully recovered” from the disease to help patients recover from the infection since there is still no definite cure for COVID-19.

Some personnel of the 53rd engineer brigade who have been infected with the virus are now fully recovered and donated plasma to help patients in need.

Col. Catindoy however, admitted that the virus really infected dozens of personnel from his unit but it was not enough to devastate the spirit of duty and service among troops.

Col. Catindoy also added that the military will do its part in implementing safety and health protocols to help contain the virus.

“Rest assured that the Brigade will remain supportive of all the safety measures and thrusts geared towards defeating the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we are Proud to Build and Serve. Through our collective efforts, our country will heal and recover as one,” Col Catindoy added. (MLC)
