PHA Tackles Proper Way of Maintaining A Healthy Heart
Emotional problems regardless of its source can affect heart functions which will redound to its deterioration unless proper actions could be taken.
This was explained by Dr. Carolyn Fermin, a cardiologist and president of the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) Cebu Chapter.
Fermin, who guested the Tapok-Tapok of Cebu Media at Cebu Business Hotel last week, described emotional problems as one of the causes of heart failure.
“But aside from emotional problems, there are also other aspects as sort of contributing factor to heart dysfunction such as the kind of foods we are eating, smoking, liquor drinking, and many others,” Fermin said.
“So by avoiding eating fats and salty foods, avoid smoking and liquor drinking are ways to protect your heart and maintain its healthy status,” she added.
Considered February as “love month”, she also cautioned not only the youth but even those who are already matured not to go drastic when in love.
This is because of implications against normal heart functions the moment an individual is frustrated due to a wrong selection of the one he or she loves, Fermin said.
At the same time Fermin also advised everybody to take care properly of their heart by limiting its emotional enjoyment and griefs.
Fermin, an advocate of good health and healthy heart, also cautioned everybody not to engage matters which can affect human feelings.
She is also inviting all resident doctors, medical students, medical practitioners to join them on February 13, 2015 at the Cebu City Sports Center in hosting the PHA activities which she herself led.
The gathering will be attended by more or less 500 PHA members excluding visitors and will discuss among others the proper way to maintain a healthy heart.
Fermin said the PHA, which existed since 1970, is doing its yearly activities every month of February to pronounce their advocacy on addressing heart problems.
