PH Raises Bars with 0-6-10 in SEA Youth Athletic Meet Results

The Philippine delegation to the 12th Southeast Asia Youth Athletics Championships has managed to bag six silver and 10 bronze medals during the first day of the competition.

For Eliza Cuyom, grade 10 student from Dasmariñas, Cavite and Thelma Latlay, grade 9 student from Zamboanga del Sur, though both first time to join an international competition, no hurdle was strong enough to finish second and third places, respectively in the 100-meter hurdle run.

Region 2’s pride Jasmine Remolino, a grade 9 student of Batanes National Science High School, has successfully launched her trajectory of success after winning bronze medal in girl’s division of the discus throw event. Nani Shahirah Maryata of Malaysia emerged champion.

“I lift everything to God. Para manalo ka dapat may dedication at determination ka,” Remolino said.

On the other hand, country’s representatives, Trexie dela Torre and Gianellie Gatinga, nipped the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the girl’s long jump division.

“Second time ko pong irepresent ang Philippines. Nung first time ko po, sixth place lang ako sa Thailand,” Gatinga said.

So close yet so far, Philippines’ representatives in 4×400 meter relay girls, Jessell Lumapas, Justine Mae Catindoy, Lenylyn Sanita and Bernalyn Bejoy, lagged a time difference of 4.46 seconds against Vietnam, concluding a silver medal for the country.

Despite being neophyte in the event, Christian Ampong, a grade 10 student from Pagadian City, Cebu won bronze in the Javelin Throw, boy’s division.

Vietnam continues to lead the official and partial tally of winners with 5-2-0 standing followed by Malaysia 3-2-3 standing. Indonesia and Singapore both clinched 2 golds while Thailand is stuck with its 3-0-0 medal standing. (ALM/MDCT/PIA-2 Isabela)
