PH Procures a Total of 164M Doses of COVID-19 Vax for 2021
The Philippines is expected to have a steady stream of COVID-19 vaccines for the rest 2021 as the government has successfully secured 164 million doses of vaccines through procurement, the COVAX Facility, and through diplomatic relations with other countries.
National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 chairperson, Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and NTF chief implementer and vaccine czar, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said during the pre-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Forum that the country is expecting the delivery of 136.1 million additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines in addition to the 28,485,130 doses the country has so far received as of July 21.
Over 16 million of the 28,485,130 doses were procured by the national government, while the private sector and local government units (LGUs) has procured 2.2 million doses.
Meanwhile, 10.2 million doses were donated by the COVAX Facility, and 2.1 million doses was from bilateral donations.
26 million out of the 164 million doses are Sinovac doses, 40 million Pfizer-BioNTech doses, while Moderna and Sputnik V doses account for 13 million, and 10 million doses respectively.
17 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine was also procured by the private sector and LGUs, along with an additional seven million doses of the Moderna vaccine.
The Philippines is also expecting an additional two million doses that will come as donations from other countries, while an additional 44 million doses was committed by the COVAX Facility.
Five million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will also arrive in the country as a result of a cost-sharing agreement with the COVAX Facility.
The Philippines has administered a total of 15,616,562 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Of the 15,616,562 doses, 10.5 million individuals have so far received their first shot doses, while the remaining five million have been fully vaccinated. (GFB)
