PH Passport Ranked 80th Most Powerful Globally
Out of qualifying countries, the Philippines ranked as having the 80th most powerful passport in the world today, according to an index published by British consulting firm Henley & Partners.
The Philippines climbed up the rankings by 2 spots for this year, as the country’s passport was ranked as the 82nd most powerful passport in 2021, according to the Henley Passport Index: Q3 2022 Global Ranking.
Last year, the Philippines had access to 66 destinations, which increased to 67 this year.
The Philippines are on par with countries such as Cape Verde and Uganda, with both countries also having a Visa-free score of 67.
Japan tops the ranking with a Visa-free score of 193. Singapore and South Korea come in at a close second with a Visa-free score of 192.
Meanwhile, the following countries are also part of the top 10 in the rankings:
3. Germany, Spain
4. Finland, Italy, Luxembourg
5. Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden
6. France, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom
7. Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United States
8. Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Malta
9. Hungary
10. Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia
The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to Henley & Partners, the passports are scored on the number of Visa-free destinations a passport holder may access.
“Each passport is scored on the total number of destinations that the holder can access visa-free. For each travel destination, if no visa is required, then a score of 1 is allocated for that passport. This also applies if passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA) upon entry,” the report from Henley & Partners read. (GFB)
