PH Logs 5th Straight Day with over 1K COVID-19 Cases

COVID-19 cases in the country are on the rise as the Christmas rush draws closer, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).

This comes as the state health agency reported on Sunday they have recorded over 1,000 cases of COVID-19 for the fifth straight day.

1,874 new cases of the pandemic were recorded on Saturday.

Data from the DOH also shows that after COVID-19 cases went down to almost 17,000 cases on November 23, it increased to 18,482 which was tallied on Saturday.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country since the pandemic began to 4,033,682, with recoveries tallied at 3,950,606; while recorded deaths rose by 23 to a total of 64,594.

Regions that tallied the most number of COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region, with 3,874 cases recorded, followed by Calabarzon with 1,961 cases tallied, and Western Visayas at 1,293 cases tallied.

Meanwhile, DOH also reported that bed occupancy in the country was currently at 23.1 percent, translating to 6,499 beds that are occupied, while 21,675 are vacant. (GFB)
