PH Food Products Wow with USD22.7M Export Sales at the 29th Taipei International Food Show
Philippine food products at the recently concluded Taipei International Food Show (TIFS) held at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) in Taiwan last 19-22 June 2019 proved lucrative as the country’s delegation raked in almost 23 million US dollars in export sales.
Organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Taipei (PTIC-Taipei), and in coordination with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan, the team brought 11 food companies to showcase some of the best natural and healthy food products the Philippines has to offer in both the Taiwanese and the global market. This year marks the seventh participation of the Philippines in the Taipei International Food Show, more commonly known as FOOD TAIPEI.
FOOD TAIPEI is reputed as one of the top food trade shows in all of Asia. It is held concurrently with four other food-related shows including Foodtech & Pharmatech Taipei, Taipei Pack, Taiwan HORECA and Halal Taiwan. This year, the 5-in-1 food expo assembled 2,000 exhibitors with 5,000 booths and brought in more than 64,000 visitors from all over the world.
With a mix of returning and first-time exhibitors, the FoodPHILIPPINES Pavilion showcased a wide variety of products, including canned seafood and meats, coconut products and health foods. The Philippine exhibitors received around 200 business inquiries and observed foreign market conditions and product trends.
The bestsellers from the FoodPHILIPPINES Pavilion during the four-day trade show were canned tuna, sardines and milkfish products from Century Pacific Food, Inc.; various coconut-based products from Team Asia Corporation and Tropicana Food Products, Inc.; and the bevy of natural and plant-based health products like herbal teas, vegetable chips and mushroom chips from exhibitors Leonie Agri Corp., Mira’s Turmeric Products and Pasciolco Agri Ventures.
“Our goal for this trade show is to promote the Philippines as a viable source of healthier and innovative food products and ingredients to address the growing health trends around the globe,” said CITEM Executive Director Pauline Suaco-Juan. “TIFS is a great opportunity for the country to showcase some of our new products, such as organic food supplements and organic packaged foods and beverages.”
The healthy, natural food products showcased by some of the Philippine exhibitors at the Taipei trade show was a response to the continuously growing and young demographic of Taiwanese consumers that seek out healthier, less processed, natural and organic foods as safer alternatives to conventional counterparts.
Also featured at the pavilion were products from Yanyan International, Inc.; Yearluck Food & Industrial Corporation; Destileria Limtuaco; Grand Asia Integrated Natural Coco (GAINCOCO) Products Corporation and JND Manufacturing Industries.
