PH Among The Safest Countries in the World: Survey
A survey conducted by American analytics firm Gallup reveals that the Philippines is among the safest countries in the world.
The study is conducted to identify the safety of a country based on people’s perception of peace and order. This study also ranks countries through a 4-question survey with the highest score of 100.
“The higher the score, the higher the proportion of the population that reports feeling safe,” Gallup said.
The Philippines garnered 84 out of 100, 2 points higher than the overall score in the world.
Meanwhile, Singapore and Turkmenistan got 97, which was the highest score in the survey.
Afghanistan scored the lowest score with 43.
The responders were asked four questions in the survey:
• In the city or area where you live, do you have confidence in the local police force?
• Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?
• Within the last 12 months, have you had money or property stolen from you or another household member?
• Within the past 12 months, have you been assaulted or mugged?
The survey was conducted in 2019 and interviewed 175,000 adults in 144 countries.
Gallup also said that they have interviewed around 1,000 adults (aged 15 and older) in each country, either face-to-face or via telephone.
The 2019 Global Law and Order report updates leaders on the progress countries are making — or aren’t making — toward achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of “promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies.”
