PH Allocates Over P32 Billion to Boost Workforce

The Philippine government has allocated billions of funds to enhance employment and livelihood programs in the 2024 budget.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary, Mina F. Pangandaman announced a substantial allocation of P32.720 billion under the Fiscal Year 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The budget includes important initiatives spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), aiming to create quality jobs and provide immediate relief to those affected by the pandemic.

Among the funded programs is the Tulong Pang-hanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), receiving P28.867 billion. TUPAD targets the informal sector, offering temporary employment to underemployed individuals and those financially impacted by the pandemic.

Youth employment takes center stage with P46.021 million allocated to the Jobstart Philippines Program, catering to unemployed high school graduates.

Another P488.198 million is earmarked for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), ensuring students in need can find temporary employment while staying in school.

The DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), also known as the Kabuhayan Program, secures P2.352 billion to assist marginalized groups, including self-employed individuals, low-wage workers, and displaced farmers.

The Government Internship Program (GIP) receives a boost of P707.716 million, providing internship opportunities for young individuals aged 18-30.

Additionally, P258.722 million is allocated for the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program (DOLE AMP), focusing on enhancing workers’ skills through funding for skills upgrade projects. (ASC)
