A total of 51 OWWA scholars from Cebu Province attended the said training. As OWWA’s learning support mechanism for its scholars, the training aimed to help them understand their own personality as a key to identify what needs to be improved. This was to inspire them to do more and be more in the pursuit of their dreams. Likewise, the training gave the scholars an opportunity to develop among them the spirit of camaraderie as they build relationship with their fellow scholars. As a whole, it was the objective of OWWA to further enhance the academic progress of all scholars under the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (OFWDSP), Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP) and Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP) through this activity.

On her welcome message, Mae D. Codilla, the Officer-in-Charge of OWWA 7 thanked all scholars for showing interest in the training through their presence. She also expressed her hopes for the best in every scholar’s career path.

Considering the challenges commonly faced by every child of an OFW, OWWA 7 invited a facilitator who truly understands where the scholars are coming from. The facilitator of the training was Kevin Johnrey Sosas, a former EDSP scholar who is a BS Psychology graduate and already has experience as facilitator in teambuilding, leadership, personality and values enhancement trainings.

Sosas tackled the Transactional Analysis (TA) method in which the scholars learned the 3 Ego States of a Person: Parent, Adult and Child (PAC) Ego States. The three ego states served as the basis in identifying a person’s personality based on his/her interactions. In other words, TA promotes awareness and allows the person to adjust accordingly in dealing with others.

“Know your PAC so you’ll know how to interact with others. How you interact with others reflects who you are,” Sosas said.

Sosas also discussed about Responsibility and conducted related activities. First the scholars were asked to draw a monster in pairs. According to Sosas, the activity aims to check how they handle the responsibility in performing the task and to make a reflection of the things they are most fearful at. In addition, to test their cooperation and planning skills the scholars were tasked to form into groups and transfer 5 members without the latter touching the floor to the other side of the function room.

Moreover, Sosas left a challenge to the scholars and that is to confidently interact with random people stating that it is one way to mold one’s personality.

“Don’t be afraid to talk no matter what others said and even if they judge you because at the end of the day, it’s you who will grow,” Sosas said.

OWWA 7 former scholars also gave short messages of inspiration. Maria Fe Rapada, former EDSP scholar and now a licensed SPED teacher encouraged the scholars to continue pursuing their goals and make the most of their scholarship since not everyone can avail such privilege.

Jefrancis Concepcion, also a former EDSP scholar and now a licensed Electronics Engineer, motivated them to brave the challenges, brought by the separation from their OFW parents, in their academic life.

Lastly, Dexter Perral, a former EDSP scholar who ranked 4th in the recent National Architect Licensure Examination, also encouraged the scholars to believe in themselves, to always do their best and to not set a target to avoid too much pressure because “success is always sweeter when it’s not expected,” he said.

“Don’t doubt yourself and compare yourself with others. It’s just about mental conditioning and you’ll see results. Do your best, don’t expect anything and just trust God,” he said further.

Romyl Cabillo, OWWO III and EDSP In-charge also encouraged the scholars to attend future activities and meetings that will be spearheaded by either their organization’s set of officers or OWWA itself because these are primarily designed for their own development. Cabillo also thanked their parents for allowing them to attend the said training.

Prizes were given to the Most Punctual Participant, the Most Cooperative Participant  and the participant who stood out during the training.

In response, one representative from every scholarship program of OWWA stood in front and shared their learning and thoughts on the said training. They also thanked their newfound friends for the great company and friendship they have established. Likewise, they expressed their gratitude to OWWA for giving them the opportunity of quality education through the scholarship and for the emotional support they get in their academic life.

To cap the day, a group picture taking then took place right after the distribution of certificates.
