A container van containing about 240 boxes of endangered budjong were seized on Thursday by joint operation of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), Bureau of Fisheries and Natural Resources (BFAR) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Cebu Province’s official website reported that an unnamed informant gave PENRO a tip of a shipment from Zamboanga carrying the budjong shells.

The operation was supported by a search warrant issued by Judge Sylva Paderanga of RTC Branch 28.

The shipment of these endangered shells is prohibited under RA 8550 of the Fisheries Code of 1998.
