The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is seeking approval from the provincial disaster council for the construction of emergency safety centers in Camotes Island, Sibonga, Tuburan and Borbon towns, PDRRMO chair Baltazar Tribunalo said.
During the full council meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) on Monday, Tribunalo said that as part of its disaster management, they are proposing to build seven evacuation sites with a total amount of P20 million.
These centers, he said, will be built in Tuburan and Borbon in the northern part, Sibonga in the south and in the island of Camotes.
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III said the disaster office’s trust fund can be utilized to finance the project that will ensure the safest and most efficient evacuation time of affected residents of a town during times of calamity.
“Duna may trust fund ang PDRRMO, we will be constructing four evacuation centers between now and 2018,” said Davide.
The PDRRMO has P117.861 million in trust fund.
Tribunalo explained to the members of the council that the amount can be used for the multi-purpose evacuation center that also has facilities for disaster training, gymnasium with comfort rooms and lying areas.
He added that the facility, which can accommodate around 100 families, will also serve as a satellite office of the Regional Civil Defense (OCD).
Once approved by the council, Tribunalo said the construction will immediately start as preparation has already been done in Sibonga town.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will also build evacuation centers in Medellin, Asturias, Dalaguete, and Cebu City.
DPWH Engineer Divine Malolot said each facility is worth P36 million or a total of P144 million.
