PDRRMO Empowers LGUs’ Disaster Management Offices
With the aim of empowering disaster management offices in all local government units in Cebu, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office conducted a planning workshop to emphasize the importance of local responders during emergencies.
The PDRRMO organized a three-day year-end action planning and teambuilding last Dec. 6 to 8 at the Alta Cebu Resort for all its liga/local members to formulate a concrete and achievable plan for 2018.
Forty of 51 local disaster risk reduction and management officers (LDRRMO) participated in the activity and shared the respective accomplishments of their offices.
In his message to the participants, PDRRMO head Baltazar Tribulano, Jr. urged the officials and LDRRMOs to always take part in training activities so they can hone their disaster-response skills.
LDRRMOs must be strengthened, said Tribunalo, as they are the first responders during natural or human-induced disasters, thus participating in disaster preparedness trainings should be proactive.
Tribunalo vowed that the Provincial Government is doing everything to help LDRRM offices sustain their good performances, as well as work on those identified as areas for improvement.
Also, Tribunalo said the P181 million allotted from the approved P4.5 billion Provincial Government budget for 2018 will go a long way in the plans and projects of the PDRRMO, particularly in the programs for prevention, mitigation and preparedness.
The 2018 budget was divided accordingly to the six key development agenda of the current administration, namely health and social services, countryside development, education and technical vocational training, environment protection with climate change and disaster risk management, infrastructure development with tourism and investment promotion, and law and order.
