PDEA to LGUs: Enhance Security in Ports, Terminals
To help in the fight against the illegal drugs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 urged local government officials to improve security plans in ports, both sea and air, and bus terminals.
PDEA 7 Deputy Director Esperidion Javier in the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting, said drugs remains the number one problem of Cebu.
“Ang mga nababalitaang patayan, barilan, nakawan indicators lang yan. Anong kadahilanan? Naka-drugs,” said Javier.
Javier said to contain this problem, there should be a strict security in all ports and areas where the illegal drugs could not enter.
The PPOC, presided by Gov. Hilario Davide III, took this as a start to warn local government officials. It was agreed in its meeting last week that seminars to enhance security against the entry of illegal drugs must be conducted in the town or city level to help the local leaders there.
“We are going to set the date for the workshop for mayors and representatives on how to enhance further our security measures here in Cebu especially in ports because of reported illegal drugs coming in from Manila,” Davide said as quoted by Cebu-PIO.
Javier revealed that illegal drugs in Cebu are from Muntinlupa City, Mindanao and even as far as Malaysia.
Davide also said that the province may be an easy target to illegal drug trade because of its many ports and its very accessible location.
“Mao na nga importante kaayo nga duna ta security measures dinhi para ma-control nato,” he said.
