PDA Warns Public Vs. Fake Dentists
The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) on Wednesday warned the public against fake dentists who are proliferating now in the countryside.
The warning was made by a combined group of government employed dentists and private practicing tooth specialists during the Kapihan sa PIA forum at the Department of Health (DOH) regional office.
Not naming names and places, the group said they are anywhere even in areas of Central Visayas region.
Dr. Fe del Rosario, Dentist, President of Cebu Dental Society (CDS) said they are receiving reports about these unlicensed dentists who are out to visit “house to house” pretending that they are qualified to extract defective tooth from their supposed victims.
“Once you have problems about tooth ache and decide for its extraction, please refer your problem to a right and qualified dentists who displayed their license inside their clinics,” Dr. del Rosario said.
“Anyway you have the right to inspect their licence being a customer, and the moment you can not find anything to prove the one you are negotiating is a genuine one, leave that clinic right away to save yourself,” she added.
She said that most of the diseases entered into the human bodies have something to do with the defective teeth, “so teeth should be properly cared of by tooth experts or by licensed dentists,” she said.
Dr. Bonifacio David, Head Dental Clinic of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) also shared the same sentiment aired by Dr. Fe saying that cancer illnesses are usually in connections with defective teeth.
The same advise he gave to the public to beware against negotiating with unlicensed tooth experts because they are there to swindle people for money.
He said the public has the right to choose among tooth experts anywhere.
“Please see to it that you will consult your tooth problems to the right person,” he said.
Meanwhile, a lot of changes and improvements now in the field of dentistry as an attribution of the closeness of relationship between a dentist and school children, according to Dr. del Rosario.
This is because of the modern equipment and facilities are now available in government hospitals and private clinics. “This is because of the lack of proper medicines, like anesthesia which were low effective before compared to the modernization of these products now,” she said.
