PCOO Sec. Warns Public Vs Impostors

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio ”Sonny” Coloma, Jr. on Tuesday warned the public against unidentified persons who used his name in their illegal activities by asking donations for the Super Typhoon Yolanda victims.

Coloma has reacted to the information sent to him by the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) regarding a group of unscrupulous persons who identified themselves as PCOO representatives.

The group, according to Coloma, claimed that they are authorized by him (Coloma) to ask for items like food, canned goods, cash or in kind, intended for Yolanda victims.

Coloma said that based on the information, the group has tried to swindle MAP and the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FEIP) by using his name while asking some cash or in kind purportedly for the same typhoon victims.

However, the group has failed to victimize some people from MAP and FEIP because of the groups’ hesitation on the manner the said swindler presented to them their intention.

Meanwhile, Coloma also added that another modus operandi (mode of operation) of the group of swindlers or scammers was unearthed where one of them, pretending to be the secretary, would make a call and offer to set a schedule to meet with President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Thus Coloma has issued a stiff denial against this big blunder saying that he has no time to call anybody just to offer a chance for them to meet with the president for their personal problem.

Coloma added that nobody could do such thing like this except swindlers.

With this bad experience, Coloma said he will request the mass media to appropriate a little time in their respective media outlets on propagating this information to warn the public.

He even asked MAP and FEIP and those people who were called up by the swindler to always remember the caller information being used by the scammer to easily identify them and their address so that they can be held liable for their swindling operations.
