PBOC Proclaims Gwen, Quisumbing, PB Members

The Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) officially heralded Gwendolyn Garcia as the newly elected Representative of the 3rd district of Cebu this afternoon (Thursday) at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall.

The victory came after a tight congressional race with Garcia’s rival, Liberal Party’s Geraldine Yapha of Pinamungajan. The incumbent mayor got 1,984 votes while Garcia, 105,424.

Completing the posts for the 3rd district, Alex Binghay and Gigi Sanchez were elected as Provincial Board (PB) members with 106,733 votes and 87,536 votes respectively.

Also proclaimed were 6th district’s Gabriel Luis Quisumbing for the congressional spot. He is joined by Thaddeu “Teddy” Ouano and Arleigh Sitoy winning the seats in the PB. Ouano got 112 ,754 while Sitoy gained 80,317 votes.

In the records, Cebu’s third district, which is composed of seven cities and municipalities with a total number of 305,952 registered
voters, only had 250,722 registrants who casted their votes last May 13.

The province’s sixth district meanwhile is composed of three cities and municipalities, with a recorded 279,972 number of registered voters. However, only 216, 274 successfully casted their votes on the election day.

As of 6:21 p.m. tonight, the PBOC received 82.35% successfully transmitted election returns (ERs).

The PBOC declared recess in the canvassing around 7 p.m., and session will resume tomorrow. They are still waiting for the remaining untransmitted ballots, which has said to be the cause of the delayed proclamation of the other districts.
