PB Member Agrees to Split First District
While most officials from the first district disapprove of the idea to split the district, Provincial Board member Yayoy Alcoseba
agrees with it, saying it would benefit the constituents.
“Kung ako, para nako, wa man sad ko’y (opposition). Mas maayo tingali (if the district is split up) para ma-address ang kadaghanan
(problems),” said Alcoseba in an interview with reporters.
Alcoseba of Liberal Party is one of the two PB members of the district, the other one is Julian Daan.
Alcoseba said the district is a possible candidate for a split-up being one of the biggest districts in the province in terms of population. The first district has three cities (Talisay, Naga and Carcar) and three towns (Minglanilla, San Fernando and Sibonga).
But the initiative “should come from the congressman,” he said.
“Kung ako’y Congressman Samsam Gullas, I will not sponsor a bill that will divide my district into two. Kung dako ang district dako ang kuan, ‘di ba?” Acoseba asked, in reference to kickbacks.
“So, who will initiate that one? Common sense will tell us nga di gyud na mo initiate si Gullas,” he added.
He said that in the second district, for one, it was former Cong. Pablo Garcia who filed the bill for its split-up, “kay huna-huna nila butangan og lain nga paryente.”
When Garcia lost in the last election, Cong. Willie Caminero refiled the bill, which was already approved in the Lower House level.
“Kung ma-split nana kinsay molangsad?” Alcoseba said, hinting a name of a last-termer mayor in the second district.
Alcoseba, on the other hand, said it is also best that his district remains intact so that it will not fall in the hands who those who receives kickbacks.
