The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) approved in mass motion a resolution granting P50,000 in financial assistance to the family of 14-year-old slay victim Thesa Marie Ygay.

The resolution, authored by Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale and was approved during the PB’s regular session on Monday, April 15, has authorized Gov. Hilario P. Davide III to grant the cash assistance to the family of Ygay, whose decomposing body was found inside a septic tank in Cogon Cruz Elementary School in Danao City last April 8.

“Whereas, this August Body joins all Cebuanos in condemning her ruthless killing and in calling concerned authorities for the speedy resolution of her case, as we convey to the surviving members of her family our condolences in their moments of grief,” read the resolution.

Security guard Jessie Mediquillo, 34, admitted to killing Ygay on April 5 or four days after her body was found in the septic tank.

He was arrested in Tabuelan town on April 11, after sending feelers of his intention to give himself up to the authorities.

Mediquillo claimed he killed the teenager out of rage against the victim’s father, who allegedly threatened to kill him sometime last month.

He said he was not in a relationship with the victim, denying the police’s report that the killing was a case of a crime of passion.

“Whereas, as a concrete expression of deep sympathy, it is but fit and proper to offer a helping hand by providing a certain amount that will help the bereaved family cope with such expenses for the wake and burial of deceased Thesa Marie Ygay,” read the resolution.

Last March 18, the PB also granted P50,000 financial assistance to the family of 16-year-old-girl Christine Lee Silawan, whose mutilated body was found dumped in a vacant lot in Lapu-Lapu City last March 11.

The PB also raised a P200,000 cash reward, through a resolution, for the speedy arrest of the perpetrator/s.

Reportedly driven by his conscience, 43-year-old Renato Payupan Llenes surrendered to the police and owned up the crime.
