Parklane’s Kan-anan Officially Features Oslob’s “Podrida”
Cebu Parklane International Hotel (CPIH) formally acknowledged its fourth-leg Sangka sa Kaha winner, last November 22 at Kan-anan.
Erlinda Butron, a 65-year-old Oslobanon won the search for ‘Podrida sa Oslob’ cooking feat called Sangka sa Kaha. The cooking competition was held last October 6 in Oslob.
Parklane gave Butron an overnight stay, gift packs and a cash worth P5, 000 as her prize for winning the cooking battle. Aside from that, Butron’s winning Podrida takes the opportunity to be featured in Kan-anan. The latter is one of Parklane Hotel’s signature restaurants, which serves Cebuano specialties and delicacies.
Butron cooked two flavors of Podrida during the competition, one with raisin and another with sweetened grated coconut meat or the so-called bukayo. She used a PVC pipe as her rolling pin, plywood as her pastry board and wooden oven (hurnuhan) to make her Podrida possible.

The basic ingredients in cooking Podrida are: flour, baking powder, grated coconut meat, raisins or pineapple chunks, margarine, pork fat and egg yolks.
Podridas is a cookie-like pastry with fillings in it (as for Butron resorted to the sweetened grated coconut meat and raisin). One can also use pineapple chunks as filling, although the use of the coconut meat is one that is of typical Podrida in Oslob. The pastry recipe tastes like cookies but varies though according to the flavor of the dough.
Parklane Hotel, which is the hotel that stands for Cebu, continues to hold Sangka sa Kaha. Its previous feats featured the best Ronda’s Humba, Argao’s Torta and Dumanjug’s Bisnok (Bisayang Manok).

Oslob Mayor Ronald Guarin thanked Parklane for featuring the best delicacy of Oslob. Oslob is also known for its whale sharks and waterfalls.
“You should visit Oslob…. It is not only a good place, with good dancers and good singers but also hospitable Oslobanons. It has gentle sharks and an outstanding scenery… so, what could you ask for?” said Cenelyn Manguilimutan, CPIH’s general manager.
Meanwhile, Parklane also sets off plans for the fifth leg of Sangka sa Kaha and their known Triathlon event, next year with October as the target month for the former and September for the latter.
