Parents Told To Prioritize Immunization
There are still parents who disregard immunization on their children despite its necessity.
Dr. Shaline Claour, expanded immunization program coordinator of the Cebu City Health Department, said that despite their massive campaign on immunization, there are still parents who disregard schedules or health center visits.
“They have a lot of excuses such as both parents are working. Good if they have grandmothers, so they will not miss a schedule. Worst they don’t even bring their babies for immunization even once,” Claour said in today’s Kapihan sa PIA.
Department of Health (DOH) and thru the barangay health workers (BHWs) are reaching out to all mothers, including those who undergo pre-natal check-ups in private clinics.
Dr. Emmelie Silao, child care program coordinator DOH-7, said there are already eight basic vaccines available in the health centers which are to be administered to newly born infants and toddlers.
These include Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), measles, tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Meningitis/Encephalitis secondary to H. influenzae type B.
The complete package usually costs P15,000 to P20,000 if administered by private physicians or clinics.
Dr. Shelbay Blanco, borne disease coordinator, said there are instances that adverse effects happen after a patient is immunized.
Since last year, there were only six reported cases of infants with adverse effects due to the patient’s anxiety.
“It is normal for fever to occur, these can be cured with paracetamol. There are other effects such as rashes but these are also treatable,” Blanco said.
Blanco said there has been no reports of any adverse events caused by the integrity of the vaccine and procedural.
