Parents-teachers Group Seeks PHP1,000 Grant for Students Affected by K-12
The Cebu City Federation of Parents-Teachers Association Inc. (CFPTAI) has requested the Cebu City Government to grant Php 1,000 annual financial assistance to all public school students who were affected by the K to 12 program.
Jun Tumulak, CFPTAI president, said the assistance would help the parents send their children to school, considering that the implementation of the K to 12 program meant additional expenses for them.
Of the proposed Php 1,000 assistance, Php 300 is for school supplies, Php 300 for uniform and Php 400 for the school shoes.
The city’s executive department included Php 170 million for the educational assistance program in the proposed Php 9.8-billion revised budget for 2016 submitted by suspended and outgoing Mayor Michael Rama.
But the proposed annual budget was returned by the city council to the executive department after Councilor Margarita Osmena assumed as acting mayor.
Osmena submitted to the council a new proposed budget of Php 6 billion.
The the proposed budget Osmena submitted does not include the financial assistance to students.
There are around 170,000 public elementary and secondary school students in the city.
Osmena said the students might be able to get the assistance starting next year because there was no approved budget for it this year. (PNA) RMA/EB/RSM
