Pantawid Pamilya Beneficiary Gets University Scholarship
Dedication and hard work in school has brought Lishley Abillar a step closer to her dream of becoming a Certified Public Accountant someday. She recently graduated from Dumaguete City High School as the class valedictorian and got a scholarship from the Silliman University, one of the prestigious schools in the country.
Aside from topping her class, Lishley also got the Leadership Award and the Best in Araling Panlipunan award. She has been active in the Supreme Student Government since her freshmen years.
Since elementary, Lishley has been a consistent honor student. She does not consider poverty as hindrance to her ambitions in life.
Lishley is the second child of the couple Marcelo and Jesusa. She has been a consistent honor student since elementary. The family is among the millions of Filipino household beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, a conditional cash transfer of the Philippine Government that invests in health and education of less privilege children aged 0-18.
This 17 year-old lass from Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City has attributed her success in high school to her parents who have strongly supported her studies. Her mother works as a food vendor and his father Marcelo is a hollow block maker.
Lishley is thankful that their family became a grantee of the Pantawid Pamilya because the cash grants have greatly helped her family sustain her education.
“One of the many blessings I received from God was being a beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilya. I always pray for the sustainability of this program because it has helped so many families like us,” Lishley disclosed. (Phoebe Jen Indino- Pantawid Pamilya Information Officer)
