Pandemic Strikes SoKor Beauty Stores Hard
South Korea, well known for their beauty products, have also been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These beauty stores and products is the symbol of the so called “k-beauty boom.”
In Myeong-dong, South Korea’s most expensive shopping district, famous not only for the locals but also for tourists, are facing serious declines in revenue and earnings mainly due to travel bans imposed last year.
“Some of our stores, except the Myeong-dong World Branch, have been closed temporarily ever since,” an official of Nature Republic said.
Nature Republic is a beauty brand franchise in South Korea, which also closed numerous stores due to the pandemic.
From 701 branches in 2017, they experienced some decline in 2019 where their branch went down to 521 according to the fair trade commission.
Other beauty brands like Tony Moly and Skin Food have also been experiencing decline and decrease in their income due to the same reason.
Mask wearing was seen to be the biggest reason why people don’t bother buying beauty products and cosmetics anymore. (MLC)
