Panasonic Reveals New Mirrorless Camera: GX7

Published

on

Panasonic today has unveiled the Lumix DMC-GX7, its latest mirrorless system camera using the Micro Four Thirds standard. Targeted at photography enthusiasts, the new Lumix comes with many of the familiar features found in the recent Lumix DMC-G6 shooter, including Focus Peaking (for focus precision), Wi-Fi with NFC (for use with smartphones) as well as customizable buttons and onscreen tabs. There is also the usual suite of in-camera tools such as Clear Retouch (to remove unwanted objects in a picture) and Creative Panorama (for shooting panoramic scenes with consecutive shots).

The camera, which sports a retro-rangefinder style design, comes with a durable magnesium alloy full die-cast frame in black and silver. The GX7 main feature is the new built-in electronic viewfinder that can be tilted upwards, to a 90-degree angle, and has a high resolution of 2,764K-dot with 100% color reproduction based on a Field Sequential Color Accuracy method and comes with an optional Eye Cup for better viewing comfort. The camera is also equipped with a rear, 3-inch tilting touchscreen display.

The camera is capable of recording full HD 1920 x 1080 60p smooth, high quality video recording in AVCHD Progressive and MP4 with stereo sound.

According to Panasonic, the GX7 is rated to operate at a fast shutter speed of 1/8000 which should be useful for fast moving shots. The new 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor also promises to offer better quality images with minimum noise.

Panasonic has not given any pricing information or availability date for the Lumix DMC-GX7. According to Panasonic Asia, the GX7 is not the successor to the GX1, but is instead positioned as a premium model. In other words, it is unlikely to be priced affordably. The GX7 is expected to be sold with either the 14-42mm kit lens or the new 20mm F1.7 lens.
