“Panama Papers” Firm Demands Prosecution
The law firm is expecting the prosecution of a worker from its Geneva office to be detained on the suspicion of stealing company documents.
Mossack Fonseca said in a statement that they have released complaints against people believed to have a hand in the theft of information gotten from the company.
The theft refers to the scandal that happened last year where a massive number of documents relating to setting up and managing offshore companies were released to the public.
Numerous leaders, politicians, celebrities and a few politicians around the world were revealed in the documents.
Offshore companies are not in itself illegal but can be used to do illegal activities like tax evasion or money laundering.
Mossack Fonseca is confident that authorities in different countries would “see through the corresponding [legal] processes in a transparent and effective manner.”
An employee for the law firm in its Geneva office has already been detained in relation to the theft.
