Palace Still Awaits Full Text of SC Decision on RH Law
MANILA– Malacañang said on Thursday it is still waiting for the copy of the Supreme Court (SC) decision upholding the constitutionality of the controversial Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RH) Law except for some provisions.
It can be recalled that the SC, in its summer session in Baguio City last Tuesday, deemed the RH law as constitutional, but struck down some parts of Sections 7, 17 and 23 and its implementing rules on providing access to family planning.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., in a Palace media briefing, said that Malacañang will first wait for an official copy of the SC decision before giving comments.
“…It is best that we await receipt of that copy, so that we are able to make a comprehensive analysis of its implications,” Coloma said.
Last Tuesday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte downplayed the possibility of a “Catholic revolt” or a conflict between the Church and the government in protest against the SC ruling.
“…Whether there will be a Catholic revolt, should it be true that the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the Responsible Parenthood Law, is something that remains to be seen,” Valte said.
“However, there are no indications of that at this point,” she added. (PNA)
