Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced the five  “gifts” from President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte during his recent visit in Camarines Sur.

Roque was invited as the Keynote Speaker during the recent awarding of the Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol (TOSB) at the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), here.

“Let me begin by giving you the many gifts that the president has especially for the youth of today. For the first time in history, only President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has given free tuition to all state universities and colleges in the country, not only free tuition but also free miscellaneous fee to all our SUCs.”

The Presidential spokesperson reiterated that had it not been for the determination of PRRD to free the students and their families from the burden of paying their tuition fees, the talents of the youth will be wasted and opportunities will be lost for they  will not be able to earn a degree or finish a college education.

“The President said, there is simply no amount , nothing more important than investing in the youth of today.”

The provision of free wi-fi is also one of the innovations that the Duterte administration pushed for the use of students and researchers and to fast track online transactions which most of the government agencies are now using.

Roque also enumerated the remaining three gifts that the Filipinos are enjoying now as the result of the government’s effort to alleviate the condition of the marginalized sector, particularly those in the provincial outskirts where services and other government programs are either not available or are not felt by those in the grassroots community.

“I also come bearing gifts, especially for students who came from a family of farmers. This is pursuant to the appeal that we filed in congress which was signed into law – free irrigation for farmers for up to 8 hectares of farmland,” Roque stressed.

The current administration also pursued the implementation of the universal health care program which lessens the hospitalization burden of poor families.

“The president will soon sign into law a bill which will provide free lunch to all students in grade school and kindergarten,” this was the last gift that Roque bared citing that the mistake of under spending caused by mismanagement of fund of the past regimes resulted to the rise of malnutrition in the country, especially in Bicol where incidence of undernourished kids is high.

Roque enjoined everyone to help the administration to achieve its goal of implementing the reforms the country badly needs. (LSMacatangay-PIAV/Camarines Sur)
