Palace Spokesperson To TOSB–“Harness your idealism”
It was in 2009 when AKO BICOL Party list started their search for the “best and the brightest” students of Bicol. This is to give due recognition to outstanding and exemplary students who, in their own way exhibited a strong sense of leadership through their significant endeavors.
Tapping the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office as partner, AKB since then has institutionalized the search as part of its vision to enhance the quality of life of every Bicolano, particularly the youth dubbed as the hope of our Fatherland.
This year, no less than the Presidential Spokesperson, Secretary Harry Roque was invited to grace another year of AKB’s milestone as it presented another batch of Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol (TOSB) before the crowd of youth leaders, former awardees, members of the academe, stakeholders and members of the media, last March 19 at the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) Nabua, Camarines Sur.
Sec. Roque expressed his admiration and recognized the significant role of the youth in nation- building.
“You cannot imagine how proud your parents are today since you are selected to be amongst the best of the best out of the thousands of students in Bicol. Harness your idealism. Harness your discipline not only to achieve your goal of uplifting your personal lives but also recognize, that as modern students you have benefited much from the toil and hardships of the past.”
Roque also enjoins the awardees and all the youth to pay back the society that sent them to school, not just because of the sense of gratitude but the consciousness that they have an obligation to themselves and to the upcoming generations.
AKB Representative Rodel Batocabe believes that the Bicolano youth of today epitomize modern heroes thus, those who have shown exemplary performance in scholarship, leadership and service being rendered to the community should be appropriately recognized.
Batocabe stressed that AKB aims to give recognition to the hard work of youth leaders and highlight the contribution of Bicolano students to local and national efforts, which are contributory to the visions of AKB and CHED. (LSMacatangay-PIAV/Camarines Sur)
