The Palace announced on Sunday that it joins the United Nations in the observance of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.

“Nakikiisa ang pamahalaan sa hanay ng mga mamamahayag at ang lahat na kabilang sa sektor ng pangmadlang komunikasyon (mass communications) sa paggunita ng International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists,” said Presidential Communications Operations Office Herminio Coloma, Jr., in a radio interview over radio station dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.

Coloma reiterated President Benigno Aquino III’s message during the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines forum: that “Nagbago na ang sitwasyon.

The Communications Secretary noted that President Aquino created the Inter-Agency Committee on Extralegal Killings, Enforced Disappearances, Torture, and Other Grave Violations on the Right to Life, Liberty, and Security of Persons, after signing Administrative Order no. 35 in 2012.

He added that the government is closely coordinating with theNational Press Club to solve extrajudicial killings of mediamen.

He added that the arrest of retired Major General Jovito Palparan and the decrease in the incident of media personnel killings is the direct result of this cooperation.

PND (ag)
