PAL to Open Direct Flight Between Palawan & Taipei

(PNA) — Starting February 13, a day before Valentine’s Day, there will already be a flight between Palawan and Taipei via the country’s flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL).

Mayor Lucilo Bayron disclosed the good news to the local media Thursday saying it was PAL that informed him of the opening of the flight that would bring tourists from Taipei to Puerto Princesa.

He said PAL will be bringing in 168 tourists from Taipei every Friday afternoon, and will go back to Taipei every Tuesday, or every after three days.

The opening of the flight was reportedly due to the city government’s active coordination with the China’s special administrative region through the Manila Economic Cooperation Office (MECO) and the country’s national flag carrier.

Bayron said aside from the uninterrupted arrival of tourists that helps the tourism industry of Puerto Princesa, the new flight can also improve its economy and that of the province.

Not only will the hotels that would accommodate them and the food outlets would benefit but even the transportation business that they would use to carry them to the city’s attractive sites.

With the arrival of tourists from Taipei, even the souvenir shops and other tourism-related businesses will gain from the opening of the new PAL flight.

Meanwhile, the cruise ship tourism is already in the middle of the 26 trips the city has pegged for this year with the M/V Superstar Aquarius that brings tourists from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

Although the said cruise ship only stays for 24 hours, the tourists that come do not waste time in touring city sites that attract them, like the underground river, spending time to taste local specialties, buying souvenir items, among others.

The cruise ship comes every Monday and leaves the next morning to go to other destinations in Asia. (PNA) FPV/CARF/EBP
